Freedom's Stand by Jeanette Windle
I have read all of
Jeanette Windle's books and a fan. I have always enjoyed how she has so much
adventure and mystery in her stories. Her older books were all set in South
America. In her most recent book Veiled Freedom and Freedom’s Stand the setting changes to Afghanistan. We also
meet the characters of Amy Mallory, Jamil, and Steve Wilson in the previous
book Veiled Freedom.
Synopsis:
Amy Mallory: She journeys back to Afghanistan after a holiday break. She has also change positions in her organization. She now assists the country manager. She is surprised by the changes since she had been gone. Many of the residents that had lived at the New Hope compound are gone. There are other changes that don’t sit well with Amy and leads her to possibly change directions in her work.
Jamil: Amy’s former assistant makes his way through rural Afghanistan. He comes to a village to help heal a woman with a dislocated shoulder and share the teachings of Isa Masih (Jesus Christ). The villagers don’t take kindly to him sharing the good news because of their strong Muslim laws. Prior to him being arrested he meets this journalist who professes to be a believer who videoed him sharing the news of Isa Misah. This video is soon uploaded and brings Jamil back to the prison life.
Steve Wilson: He had not planned on coming back for another tour of duty in Afghanistan but sought to help out a buddy who needed to be home with his family. Steve meets up with Amy Mallory again during a riot outside the stadium In Kabul. He seems to keep running into her and having to rescue her from other situations. Steve has struggled with his past and how to let go. After Jamil is arrested Steve realizes that he needs to take a stand for his faith and let go of his past.
What stand will these three characters take as Jamil stands up for his faith? How will this impact Afghanistan? Will Amy be able to continue her relief work in Afghanistan? What path will Steve choose to follow?
Thoughts:
I love how Jeanette Windle books are always packed with action, mystery, and set in an unusual setting. I learned a lot about Afghanistan and the plight of their people. I found this book easy to read and a real page turner. The reader will not be disappointed with the story.
