Bamboo and Lace by Lori Wick

Synopsis:
Jeff and Lily Walsh are both children of missionaries in the country of Kashien. Jeff has moved away from home to Hawaii. He writes begging his father for permission for Lily to visit him. Lily has never visited the states. His father finally concedes to his wishes and Lily travels to Hawaii. Jeff enjoys showing Lily around and helping learn American culture. Suddenly, Jeff is called away on a work emergency and cannot take Lily with him. He asks his Gabe and the rest of the Kapaias to watch over Lily and continue her lessons. What will Lily learn while Jeff is gone? Will Gabe become important in Lily’s life?

My Thoughts:

I liked the book and enjoyed exploring Hawaii with Lily. I found myself really fighting for Lily to enjoy her experiences on Hawaii. The character of her father is a great foil to Lily’s character. This is a great display of how different cultures affect one another. I found the book to be a little long but still an enjoyable read.
