If I Could Turn Back Time I Would…

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for sending me a copy of If I Could Turn back Time by Beth Harbison.  She used Cher’s song "If I Could Turn Back Time". I remember this song from the 80s.  I have to say this song has been in my head the entire time I have read this novel.
Ramie Phillips is celebrating her thirty-eighth birthday when she gets news about her friend Lisa who is pregnant.  All of the sudden she wonders if she missed out on something in life. Would having had a family been a better plan?  When Ramie decides to leave the party and take a dip, she gets more than she bargained for.   Raime wakes up and she is eighteen years old again and it is the last few days of high school.  What will she do? Will she be able to turn back time and change the past?
My Thoughts:
I unfortunately wasn’t a fan of this one by Beth Harbison.  I didn’t find the story easy to follow initially or could relate to Ramie very well.  I wondered why it was so important that her friend was having a baby and why that meant Ramie missed out on life.  The author is very descriptive in describing the time periods.  I did find the chapter about the death of her father out of context in the story.  I would have preferred it to be more linear. The story left me wondering what would she choose?   I did find the conclusion satisfying.   I thought what saved this novel is asking the question what would you do if you could turn back time?
If I could turn back time I would…Be more independently minded. I would have a productive career.   I would continue to grow to love and help others.
I look forward to her next novel!
