Sharing the Stage – Co-Authoring a Novel by Travis Casey

I joined an online critiquing group in 2011. In addition to having my work read and reviewed, I would do the same for others. I stumbled across a writer named  Melissa Mayberry . She was writing her first novel, a YA romance, with characters who had me screaming at the pages at their ignorance, feeling their pain at rejection, and cheering at their victories. I knew she was good by how much emotion she evoked from me. I was writing my first novel as well and we soon became writing partners exchanging ideas and offering feedback on each other's stories. One day Melissa asked if I'd like to write a book with her. I was flattered. No writer is going to jump into a metaphorical bed with another writer unless they feel the writing is good enough for their name to accompany their own on the cover. The first question was how does someone begin writing a novel with someone else? There was little question how we would do it in terms of POV (point of view). It would be in first ...

Love Is In The Air by Rosa Temple

Image
For me, the month of February is synonymous with St Valentine's Day and everything that goes with love and romance. It's true that as soon as we get to this most romantic month of the year, shop windows fill with hearts and flowers, boxes of chocolate assume sparkly new packaging, cupids arrows are pointing at you from every angle and the radio will remind you, constantly, that love is in the air. I think it's a great time of year but I've been married for eighteen years. So is the whole idea of getting slushy and lovey-dovey a waste of time after so many years? Is St Valentine's Day for those who have just fallen in love? If you, like me, are in the camp that says that St Valentine's Day is for everyone with a sense of romance, no matter how long you've been with your partner, then go ahead and take a seat; you've probably got this wrapped up and you're all set for some dancing and romancing on the 14 th . If, on the other hand, you're in...
