A Beautiful Rainy Day in Charleston South Carolina
On Sunday I
drove to meet the bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. She was reading from her latest novel Beautiful
Day. The event took place at
Charleston South Carolina’s main library.
Elin opened
by reading a few pages Beautiful Day.
She explained that this novel covers the spectrum of marriage from
wedding to divorce. A central part of
the story is this notebook.
After the
reading was finished, Elin answered questions from the audience. I asked about her writing style. Her response was that she never likes using
first person and will always write her novels in third person. Another asked what made you want to write? She felt she was an author from the time she
was a little girl. After finishing her
studies at the University of Iowa School of Creative Writing. She found an agent who liked the idea of her writing about
Nantucket.
So her
writing career began with a publishing contract with St. Martin. They published her first five novels before switching and
going over to Hachette Little
Brown.
The
discussion then to turned to which is
better Hard back copy, paperback
copy, or e-book? This issue is a concern
not only to Elin but other authors as well.
The group basically said paperback was there choice. What would you choose?
I look
forward to seeing Elin again soon and look forward to reading her next novel!
