Karolina's Twins by Ronald H. Balson Makes a Great Escape!

Image
Thank you to Ronald  H. Balson for coming to Writer’s Corner to celebrate the Pink Escape.  We are excited to feature his novel Karolina's Twins .  If you like history with a little mystery thrown in then we have a great story for you.  Let the words of the author be your escape. Synopsis: Lena Woodward, an elderly woman, enlists the help of both lawyer Catherine Lockhart and private investigator Liam Taggart to appraise the story of her harrowing past in Nazi occupied Poland. At the same time, Lena’s son Arthur presents her with a hefty lawsuit under the pretense of garnering her estate—and independence—for his own purposes. Where these stories intersect is through Lena’s dubious account of her life in war-torn Poland, and her sisterhood with a childhood friend named Karolina. Lena and Karolina struggled to live through the atrocity of the Holocaust, and at the same time harbored a courageous, yet mysterious secret of maternity that has troubled Lena ...

Escape With the Spice Box Letters Giveaway

Image
The Spice Box Letters is a new release by St. Martins Press last month.  The publisher is sharing one copy of The Spice Box Letters in a giveaway here on Writer’s Corner.  This novel is another journey into the past just waiting for discovery by Katerina.    Synopsis:  Katerina inherits a scented, wooden spice box after her grandmother Mariam dies. It contains letters and a diary, written in Armenian. As she pieces together her family story, Katerina learns that Mariam's childhood was shattered by the Armenian tragedy of 1915. Mariam was exiled from her home in Turkey and separated from her beloved brother, Gabriel, her life marred by grief and the loss of her first love. Dissatisfied and restless, Katerina tries to find resolution in her own life as she completes Mariam's story – on a journey that takes her across Cyprus and then half a world away to New York. Miracles, it seems, can happen—for those trapped by the past, and for Katerina herself. ...

Update On Me!

When October ended last year, I had surgery.  This surgery would remove the  cancer from my body, but more specifically my breast.   The cancer was completely removed.   The surgeon took the breast and some lymph nodes that were cancerous.   I am technically in remission. My doctor recently shared that the more there are no symptoms the better the chance of survival.   I have also had another surgery as well.   I am planning on one more surgery moving forward.   This one will hopefully end my journey with cancer.   I will have reconstruction of both right and left.    I live each day in appreciation of the chance to live it. I will continue to have the program of the Pink Escape each year.  I am excited to see how it will grow.  I want to be able to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.  I am indebted to all those who have prayed and continue to pray.  We need to lift up others in prayer....

Escape with Jenny Colgan at the Corner Bookshop!

Image
One of my favorite places to escape is a bookstore.  So to go to the Corner Bookshop would be even  be better.  Jenny Colgan is a writer that I have wanted to read for a long time.  Readers can also check out many of Jenny's back list.  Here is an excerpt from   The Bookshop on the Corner . "The problem with good things that happen is that very often they disguise themselves as awful things. It would be lovely, wouldn’t it, whenever you’re going through something difficult, if someone could just tap you on the shoulder and say, “Don’t worry, it’s completely worth it. It seems like absolutely horrible crap now, but I promise it will all come good in the end,” and you could say, “Thank you, Fairy Godmother.” You might also say, “Will I also lose that seven pounds?” and they would say, “But of course, my child!”             That would be useful, but it isn’t how it is, which is why we sometimes plow o...

Jane is Back!

Image
Jane Green is one of my favorite authors.  I have sat at her feet and learned a great deal about writing.  Her latest novel Falling has some truth from her real life.  She shared the story with us as I attended her tour stop at Fox Tale Book Shoppe.  Synopsis:  Emma is ready to start over.  She has given up her career as a banker to move to Westport Connecticut.  Her good friend Sophie lives there with her family.  So she starts to look for housing and finds a nice cottage on the beach.  Her landlord is her next door neighbor  Dominic. He is also handy to a certain extent.  Emma finds her next calling as an interior designer.  So as Dominic and Emma’s relationship grows will there be a future? My Thoughts:  I very much enjoyed this story.  I will agree with what others have said that this is “classic Jane Green” at her best.  All fiction has some basis in reality.  I feel that her agent was right...
