Robert J. Elisberg sent me his debut novel Wild Roses .   I liked the idea of the story of the three musketeers with a twist meaning women in the role instead of men.      I knew a little about the three musketeers but not much.   I was interested to see how three women in these roles would work or not? Synopsis:   The king was only a child at the time of his kidnapping.   His father had died recently and with the monarch being a child a perfect opportunity.     One noble man the Marquis De Longueville wants to change the rule of France to the nobles.   He seems to succeed until…These three women Racine a gypsy, Charlotte a wealthy heiress, and Gabrielle an actress start blocking his plan.   These ladies all have one thing in common they are great with a sword.   An old nobleman finds a way to unite them, but can they really get over their differences?   Will they rescue the king? My Thoughts:   I...

I’ve just finished The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert, and as one of the few people in the world who has not read Eat, Pray, Love , or seen the Julia Roberts’ film adaptation.   I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Synopsis: The story focuses on a series of relationships against the backdrop of botany in the 1800s. Our heroine, Alma Whitaker, is the only biological daughter of Henry and Beatrix.   They live with an adopted sister Prudence, on an immense estate in Philadelphia called White Acre. It is in this environment that Alma is encouraged to question and study any and everything that fascinates her, but as the family fortune is based on Henry’s affinity with flora and commerce.   She soon becomes as adept as her father in all things plant related. This story, which spans nearly the entire 19 th century, takes us along as a young, decidedly rough around the edges Henry Whitaker embarks on the series of journeys that lead us to White Acre....

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for a copy of The Fortune Hunter by Daisy Goodwin.   This novel is her second.   The first is The American Heiress .     The author opens with a letter about her fascination with Sisi or Elizabeth the Empress of Austria which the author makes comparisons to Princess Diana.   There are also other characters such as Charlotte Baird, her brother Fred and his fiancée Augusta Crewe, and Bay Middleton.   What is a fortune hunter? Synopsis:   Charlotte Baird is busy developing her pictures.   She is a photographer much to the chagrin of her brother Fred.   She is also an heiress of her mother’s Lennox Fortune.   But why is this so important?   It might be because of who she might meet.   Bay Middleton is a friend of Fred Baird.   He has just been brushed aside by his most recent lover.   Bay is also asked to be the pilot for the deposed queen of Naples.   He refuses but h...
