The Accidental Bestseller by Wendy Wax

This book is another book club pick by a group on goodreads.com called Chick Lit. I am also excited that Wendy was able to join us for the discussion. I had originally picked this book up to go to one of Wendy’s tour stops and got a chance to meet her. I have wanted to read this book for a longtime.

Synopsis:

Kendall, Faye, Mallory, and Tanya are attending a conference in New York for Authors. Kendall is hoping that she wins the Zelda award. The friends primp and wait for what they hope will be an exciting moment for their friend. Finally it is Kendall’s turn the award she is nominated for is announced next. The announcer reads the name of the winner but the winner was not Kendall. She had hoped that by winning the award she could do something about her publishing company Scarsdale and get a different editor. Her editor Jane Jenson delivers the crushing news that they won’t renew her contract but she is obligated to write one more book.

To make matters worse when she comes home she finds that her husband has left her for a younger woman. These circumstances stop Kendall in her tracks and she runs to her mountain home to take along with her tool belt and Do-It-Yourself book. The house gets a makeover and Kendall avoids writing the book that will be her last hurrah at Scarsdale. Mallory and friends decide to help Kendall with her last book and get her over the hump. They decide to collaborate together on the book but Kendall’s name would be on the cover. Will these friends be able to pull of this book? Will Jane finally see Kendall for what she is worth as a writer?

I really liked this book. I found this book thoroughly enjoyable page turner. I also could identify some with Kendall’s struggles as a writer. I found this book to be an interesting take on the publishing industry. I highly recommend this book.

Rating: 4.5/5
