Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani
A book club selection
by Chick Lit and Other Fiction, the theme for April is Destination Italia. The
book that won the poll was Very Valentine. I have always wanted to read a book
by Adriana Trigiani. I have always loved Italian food. I also wanted to learn
more about the Italian culture. I was not disappointed.
Story:
Valentine Roncalli has apprenticed under her grandmother Teodora Angelini to become a maker of shoes. The business has seen better days. The question becomes can they take the family business into the twenty first century? One day a stranger appears in the shop needing a fix on a wedding shoe for a movie being filmed nearby. Valentine and her grandmother go to help. The producer of the film was so happy with their work that she mentions to her friend Rhedd Lewis the CEO of Bloomingdales that the Angelini Shoe Company should be considered for the upcoming Christmas windows. Valentine struggles with how to come up with the perfect show. She also struggles with the drama of her family and her boyfriend Roman. Her brother Alfred was asked to help with keeping the business going. Valentine struggles with how to work with him. Will a trip to Italy change everything in Valentine’s life?
Review:
I liked the book. I found the drama to be a little much during some sections of the book. Overall I would give this book 3.5 hearts. If you are looking for a book that will grasp your Italian flare this is the book for you!
