I am excited today to share Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. It is my first novel by Lisa, and I feel there will be many more.  The novel Before We Were Yours is set in the Memphis area during the late 1930s and current events.  There are two storylines that run through this novel. As I sit here writing this post, I’m reminded that a year ago today, I was participating in a walk for ALS for my childhood friend, Kevin. It was a glorious fall day, full of the color with the leaves changing. The backdrop was the picturesque, Chicago city skyline. Kevin’s team, of well over a hundred, including family, friends and colleagues, joined countless other teams to raise awareness and show support for this debilitating disease. Exactly one year later, he is no longer here with us. He passed away a month ago and now, I officially know more people that have died from ALS than any other disease. Any diagnosis of any illness is devastating to hear. I have several friends that have been fighting the battle of breast cancer. The impact and reach, to all loved ones, is enormous. I recognize with each passing year, the fear and discomfort of hearing this type of news, within my inner circle, is something I will be forced to deal with but how do you prepare? Welcome to Pink Escape 2017.  This month is dedicated to those who have fought the good fight or currently fighting breast cancer.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  This month I officially end my fight.  I am finishing my reconstruction surgery.   I am so thankful for all the support that I have had through my battle.  I thank the followers of Writer’s Corner for bearing with me over these past two years.   As I recover more I will go back to sharing some of the posts that I have been unable to do within the last two years.   This Pink Escape will be abbreviated do to my recovery from my latest surgery.  I plan to start resurfacing around week three of my recovery which is October 23.    Please stay informed and help fight the good fight!
