Have You Walked A Mile In My Shoes?

Thank you to Goodreads for a copy of Home Front by Kristin Hannah.  I was given this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kristin Hannah explores what it is like for a women to go over to the war in Iraq.  What is the impact on their family?  What is her relationship like with her husband?  How will her children fare while she is gone?   Or the real question who is the community that she can count on in this story?

“Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday lifechildren, careers, bills, choreseven as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then a deployment sends Jolene deep into harm's way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider, she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his ownfor everything that matters to his family.” (Amazon)
My Thoughts:
I liked this multi-layered story, and the surrounding  emotions that it evokes as a reader.  Kristin Hannah sure knows how to tell a story.  I loved that main character is a reservist in the army.  I thought that it added a whole other dimension to the story.  In the additional pages in the back of the book Kristin Hannah is interviewed about her writing process for  this book.  She started telling the story from two sister’s points of views, and it evolved into two best friends.  I feel that it is also a story bridging the gap between Michael and Jolene and how they journey together in this story.
