Books to Movie Giveaway Hop!

Welcome to the Movies to books giveaway hop!  This hop will run from August 27-September 3 2013. Writer’s Corner we will be featuring a novel by Debbie Macomber in honor of her new show Cedar Cove.  Thank you to our friends at Random House Marketing for the copies of this novel.  Celeste will tell us more about Starting Now.

Have you ever had a day that started out well, only to feel like someone pulled the rug out from beneath your feet?  This is what happened to the central character Libby Morgan in the novel "Starting Now" by Debbie Macomber.
Libby is a dedicated successful lawyer with her eye on a partnership.  Libby has paid her dues, (6 years at her firm, expert in the field of estate planning, earned an impressive amount of billable hours), and was well liked by a key client of the firm.  An offer of partner should have been a no brainer.  Imagine Libby's surprise when she is handed a pink slip and a severance package.  The world as Libby knew it no longer existed.  Libby had to make a new world for herself...starting now.
My Thoughts
The characters and the places are vividly described in “Starting Now”.  I felt like I was watching a movie as I read the developing plot in the book.  The issues faced by the characters in the book are realistic.  The story was engaging and enjoyable, sad, yet joyful.  I was able to relate to Libby Morgan’s character as well as other characters in the book. The characters felt like old friend by the end of the book.  I found myself caring what happened to the characters, how they resolved their issues.  How would Libby rebuild her life?  Would she learn from her past mistakes or continue down the same worn out path?

  7. I really enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, but my favorite (though some would greatly disagree with me) is the LOTR trilogy. Because of the movie and the amazing cinematic effects and acting, many viewers of all ages were inspired to READ the books. Any movie that encourages people to actually pick up a book is a winner in my view.

  8. In a round about way of answering the question...
I disliked both "Eat Pray Love" and "Julie and Julia" in book form, I found them whiny and self righteous (I know I'm not in the majority there). But I really like both of the movies. They took this great story idea, that I felt failed as a memoir/stunt genre, and made it a great story on the big screen.

  13. My favorite is probably the first movie to Anne of green Gables. It was so true to the book, it was like all my book friends come to life. The later movies didn't stay as true to the books so wasn't that fond of them.

  15. I loved the book and film adaptation of The Bridges of Madison County. The movie was true to the book. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood were brilliant. I never tire of that movie.

I read The Great Gatsby in high school and it was one assigned novel I actually enjoyed. I have yet to see the movie.

    Thanks :)
