Synopsis:
Nola
Cespedes is a reporter for the Times Picayune a New Orleans newspaper, and just
beginning her career in the newspaper business. Shea has been writing many society pieces
for the newspaper. One day her boss
Bailey comes with a story at first that Nola does not want to touch. He talks her into taking the story about
sexual assault offenders that are off the grid in New Orleans. Nola starts to tackle the story what else
will she find? She has the support of
her girlfriends and family.
My Thoughts:
This book is
not exactly what I thought in terms of being a thriller. Nola
is a Latina woman with a hard edge to her.
She is a very strong protagonist.
I just had a hard time liking her.
The other main themes are sexual assault, rehabilitation, and recovery. The author chose to explore the gritty side of
sexual assault, the offenders, and their rehabilitation. The book is an
enjoyable read. The reader will want to
know how the story turns out, and keep turning the pages!
Ms. Castro
wrote a riveting book for her debut. She
challenges you to see crime from all perspectives. A reporter must work all the angles of a
story and sometimes these angles might be unpleasant. A great summer read!
Please be
sure your thoughts with Joy on her book.

What makes it a great suspense is that they lead you to believe that she's already in trouble.
