This year I have had the chance to read the debut by Jennifer Weiner and now here is the debut by Elin Hilderbrand. Her first novel was the Beach Club. So I invite you to pull up a deck chair and sit back and close your eyes. Let your mind transport you to Nantucket.
It is time for another summer season at the beach club. Bill and Therese have owned and operated this hotel and beach club all their lives. It has been passed down in the family from parent to child. They have one child Cecily. But does she really want the club? Is she ready for her legacy? Mac has been with the beach club for many years. Bill and Teresa consider him an adopted son. He also owns a farm in Iowa. Does a future in Nantucket exist? Or should he sell the farm? There are also other members of the staff and their loved ones. What will this summer mean to them?
I enjoyed this debut by Elin Hilderbrand. She brings memorable characters to the island of Nantucket and this beach club. The plot was not predictable in any way. The reader is taken into the story with a real desire to care for these characters. I did not care for some of the characters choices.
The best setting in the entire world is Nantucket!
I would highly recommend visiting the Beach Club!
