Can A New Ministry Be a Good Thing? By Josephine Mattia

Thank you to Karla Akins and Harbourlight Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.  One woman breaks down stereotypes of bikers and uses faith in this wonderful novel, by Karla Akins.

Synopsis:

As a Christian woman, Kirstie Donovan tries her best to live up to her roles: as a Pastor’s wife, Mother, and Friend. Kirstie makes a choice to make time for her. At the beginning of the novel, we see her attending a meeting at the First Independent Christian Community Center in Eel Falls, Indiana.  Her husband, Pastor Aaron Donovan resides as Pastor.   She lives in a bubble, and is always catering to everyone’s needs as a Wife, Friend, and Mother. Kirstie never has time to do things for herself, so with the support of her friend Reba she gets to fulfill her childhood dream by riding a Bubblegum Pink Motorcycle named Heaven. Lily and Opal also came along for the ride with both Kirstie and Reba. The four of them start a group called Lady Eels on Wheels. Together they have a lot to learn. Kirstie learns that biking can not only be fun, but a ministry.  Will others approve of her ministry? Does she feel that is she is making a difference?

My Thoughts:

Words cannot describe how I enjoyed this book. The book hits home on many levels, yet contains messages everyone can relate to. You learn about stepping out in faith. How God puts your faith to test. Ms. Akins did a magnificent job presenting the characters that you can relate, to as a reader. Opal and I have many similarities such as being shy and unsure of ourselves. She breaks out of her shell and falls in love with a biker, named Atticus. I also loved how Ms. Akins presented a real, honest portrayal of Bikers. For someone growing up in a Christian environment, I can understand that there are people like Berenice and Norman. The writing is incredible, and I hope that the writer continues to create stories like this in the future.

Rating: 5/5
