A Novel Perfect for the Beach Viewer Discretion Advised by Cindy Roesel

Cindy’s book was featured in the program at Stonecrest Library.  She sent two copies and one found a home during the event and the other is for a lucky follower in this giveaway.   Thank you Cindy for providing these copies:

Synopsis:

Charley Thomas is a news director that has recently received some bad news because she was fired from her job in LA.  What will she do next?   Her best friend Rori in Miami mentions a job possibility to Charley, and reminds her of a contact she had met before.  Her contact Jonathon Lefton the velvet axe who runs WCAR a local station in Miami.  He is known for putting talent on the air and getting great ratings.  Charley decides to work for him and so let the fun begin.  Will Charley survive the excitement that is Miami? Will she win over her new staff?

My Thoughts:

I loved this novel!  This novel is definitely worth reading.   A great debut for Cindy Roesel!  I can’t wait to read her next one.   I can only imagine that her next novel will be even better!

What particularly stood out to me is the plot.  I felt the story line is very appropriate considering the economic situation in the country.     Story begins with Charley looking for work.  The setting a news room is different than in many other novels that I have read.  I felt the conflicts between characters are written well.  I loved how the author incorporated news stories into the plot and how it related to Charley’s job as a News Director.

Take a Trip to Paris with Eloisa James and Family

Thank you to Sue Grimshaw and Random House for sending me this book.

Synopsis:

Eloisa and her family which includes her husband Alessandro and their two children Luca and Anna decide to move to Paris for a year.   Alessandro takes a sabbatical from his work as a college professor and is Italian.   He has family in Italy so they go off to visit them first and then make the drive to Paris.  This journey is narrated by Eloisa James.
Eloisa narrates the story of that year through essays on fashion and French food to short snippets throughout each chapter.   You get a picture of what it is like to live in Paris with children.  She is also very descriptive of the beautiful setting of the city and the many activities to do.

My Thoughts:

This book discussed a couple of my favorite topics one being anything French and the other fashion.  I thought that the book would appeal to me for those reasons.  I was a little disappointed with this book.  I had a hard time staying focused while reading it.  I feel this maybe my lack of fondness for memoirs.  As I said above there were many subjects that I found interesting such as the food, fashion, the museums, and her writing.

One aspect of the book that Eloisa shared many times is what her many jobs are.   Eloisa is a Professor in creative writing studies at Fordham and Writer of romance novels.  Many people don’t realize that writers often wear many hats.  For most writing is not a full time job.  Would you want to take an adventure like Eloisa and her family?

You can reach Eloisa James by e-mail and or website.
